Need to blog about my blogging... I know, funny. I was thinking about how I'm so lame these days compared to Kindzia, Nat, LoveOfShoes and other bloggers. But maybe I'm not that lame. Maybe it's part of a natural progression. Not towards lameness. But the way that hobbies tie up thoughts for a while and then your thinking moves on... even though you're involved in the thing. Just a theory. Maybe a rationalization for me to be lazy. Will explore more at some point but wanted to get quick summary up.

Went to GNC to get some whey protein. Asked the lady working there about probiotics for the immune system. She broke out "the book" of all of their stuff and looked up "immune system." In the list I spotted bovine colostrum. Bovine colostrum? Uh, no thanks. We both got a good chuckle out of it. "Not many people would actually know what that was," she said. I realized a few minutes later that she might have thought I had cancer when she said "many of our other cancer patients use aloe." I went with it. Nice lady. 5lbs of whey protein and no probiotics, or bovine colostrum, came home with me.

That said, I feel disrespected because he didn't run as fast as he could have... he was celebrating and decelerating with 15 meters to go. I'd like to have seen what he was capable of doing. Watched the women's individual gymnastics event. Pretty dramatic with a US gold-silver. I was rooting for Nastia Liukin to win and she took home the gold. Amazing to witness live a person achieving their life's dream, especially given the scale of the dream in this case. Also watched Phelps do another two swims. I've been able to catch most of his swims thus far.

Oh, the saga of selling 3730 Gleneagles continues. Had somebody "under contract" but the deal fell through after an inspection. We chortled when we saw what freaked them out... tiny stuff. Amateurs. It's all being fixed and none was a big deal but these possibly inexperienced home buyers were spooked by the inspector's doom & gloom language... they always have to justify their fee by finding stuff and without real stuff they just make tiny crap look huge. Amazing how perspective affects things. Another couple (a much cooler couple, btw, who would be better stewards of the place) are hardly deterred after a walkthrough highlighting the issues the inspector found. They're looking to find a way to get the house but are doing a contingent deal where we (well, Heather and her father, my real estate posse) have to sell their house. Not an ideal deal, but one we're considering. The saga continues and Heather/Beep are doing a great job. I just wish it wasn't eating so much of their time, distracting them from their other businesses.

Upgraded to Firefox 3 on the laptop. Had it installed elsewhere but hadn't made the switch because one addon hadn't been ported. Still hasn't because the developer is not responsive but somebody created a hack. Latest version is definitely faster than previous one, something that's rare in the oft-bloated world of upgrades.

So remember when I said that my little rabies shot cost me ~$300 because I paid on-site? Well, apparently not. They billed us for about $4k. Gotta be a mistake... they probably charged for a full course of rabies shots, not the single administration I got. Left them a voicemail telling them of my intent to not pay, how to contact me. I was told clearly that if I paid on-site my total cost would be ~$300. If I had been told about a $4000 charge I wouldn't have given them a penny at the time.

Rusty came over with a weed whacker and a machete. He took the weed wacker and cleared 500% more biomass than I did. But I had 501% more fun and got a nice thumb blister. Been struggling with pillows last week or so. I'm very pillow-sensitive. Has to be the right height, density and texture. If it isn't I don't sleep well. I've got about 9 pillows stacked up around the bed. Often the solution is to stack two pillows, one dense, one not. Because pillows degrade quickly it's a constant battle. I've tried the $60 pillows and had the same issues. Synthetic, natural, feather, etc. My current setup is a standard thin pillow under a memory foam neck support pillow. We'll see how it works tonight. Feels good on early non-sleep tests.

Talked to the vet. Little or no chance that a rabid dog would get better after showing signs of rabies. And no chance that an antibiotic would mask symptoms of rabies. There may be a 45 day in-house quarantine required by the state. He's heartworm negative and his other bloodwork was fine. He continues to improve and is now running around the backyard again with a slight difficulty breathing.

I checked on Bug. He's alive and not drooling but he's very unhappy. He's having trouble breathing. All of which indicates it's not rabies but something stuck in his throat. We'll watch him a few more hours and then may get him in to a vet. The thinking is that they should have sedated him to check his breathing. He may have a dead bird or other animal stuck in his throat. We'll see. Very leery of getting near him, of course, given yesterday's symptoms.

Noting how tall the trees are around the house and in GA in general. In TX the trees are a lot shorter because the soil won't support them (nutrient-wise and stability-wise.) Wouldn't have noticed this if mom and Mark hadn't pointed it out.

Think I may have just screwed up. Guy called about small business financing. I had him on speaker, not paying much attention. He offered to send a pre-qualified loan thing via fax. He asked questions and I answered, again not paying much attention. Problem is, that included my social security number. Only after I gave it did I start paying attention and realized that this guy sounded phoney. Damn. Usually I'm pretty good about not giving out info to people who I'm not sure of. My gut says there's a 65% chance this guy's trying to steal my identity or do something else illegal with the info.
